Thamesville Area Central School September 2008 Principal - Wilma Sonneveld-Wright Secretary - Lori Veldboom "High standards are the foundation for great achievements." A
Message from Your Principal The first day of school is always exciting for students
and parents. Students arrive with
new backpacks filled with school supplies and happily reconnect with classmates
and friends. The school staff have been busily preparing the
classrooms and other areas of the building.
Floors are sparkling, classrooms are decorated and organized.
Everyone is prepared for a wonderful school year. As your new principal, it is my wish for the 2008-2009
school year to keep that excitement throughout the year!
Our focus will continue to promote academic excellence in a safe
environment where all children can learn. I look forward to getting to know all of the students
and parents from Thamesville Area. Be
sure to stop by the office to introduce yourself and tell me about your
children. When home and school work
together, students achieve success. Looking
forward to seeing you at the Meet the Teacher BBQ! TACS

A teacher will be on duty to supervise at this time. As noted in the June 2008 newsletter, students leaving the school
property during nutritional breaks will only be allowed to go during the first
break. Special food days will be
held during the first nutritional break. Safety
at School At TACS, one of our objectives is to provide a safe,
supportive learning environment for your children. The following procedures are in place to help your child feel
safe at school. ● All doors except the front door will be locked
at 9:20 a.m. and opened again at 3:30 p.m.
This procedure will assist in helping to ensure unwanted visitors cannot
enter the school by doors not monitored by the office staff. ● All visitors, including parents, must use the
front door and report to the office. During
school hours, parents are requested not to go directly to the classroom
or outside to the playground without stopping at the office first.
The secretary will notify the teacher to send your child to the office.
It is important that instructional time is not interrupted. ● At dismissal time, parents are requested to not
be in the hallway until students have been dismissed.
Parents of primary students are asked to wait outside the primary
entrance door or at the front foyer. Safe
dismissal of all students is a priority. ● Please call the school if your child is going to
be late or absent from classes. A
message can be left on our answering machine.
We must make a home contact to verify each absence and therefore your
phone call helps us. Please contact
the school at 519-692-3908. Please
make sure we have a current emergency contact for your child. Food
Sales Milk Chocolate or White - $1.00 Chips - $1.50 Water - $1.00 Please note that new Government guidelines are now in place for food sales in all schools in Ontario. The new regulations limit the products that can be sold in schools, based on nutritional value, transfat content etc. This will impact special food days, sales of Pizza and other items. Schools are limited to a specific number of special food days per school year. More information about food sales will be distributed within the first few weeks of school. Planners Students from Grade 1 Grade 8 will be given a school
planner to record homework assignments and dates of school activities.
The planners are excellent instruments for parents and teachers to
communicate successes and concerns. Please
send $6.00 to help pay for the cost of the individual planner.
Each family will pay no more than $12.00 if there are more than two
students in the family attending TACS. School
rules and routines are included in the front of each planner.
Please review this information with your children. Use
of Cell Phones at School Cell phones and other electronic devices should be left at home. Should your child require a cell phone for safety concerns during before and after school hours, then the cell phone needs to be powered off and dropped off at the office at school entry in the morning, to be picked up at the end of the day. Mrs. Veldboom will have a storage box for the cell phones, to ensure the safety of the device. If you need to contact your child during the day, please call the office and a message will be delivered to your child. Meet

is important that you inform the office administration if your child is allergic
to bees, latex, milk, nuts or other allergens. Student
